Our story

Every room begins at the floor.
Why Oriel Haus
We kept seeing the same room. A good sofa, a few things on the walls, and on the floor a printed polyester rug that looked fine online and flat in real light. The floor was always the last thing bought and the first thing you noticed.
Oriel Haus starts there. We make rugs in wool and bath pieces in cotton and stone, and we keep them to five earth colors (Umber, Ochre, Sienna, Tufa and Terre Verte), so anything you buy from us sits with anything else you buy from us, this year or in five.
An oriel is a bay window, the corner of a house where the afternoon light comes in and lands on the floor. We named the company after it because that's the room we make things for.
How the pieces are made

Our rugs are loomed and tufted in wool, so the pile keeps the uneven depth and warmth that printed polyester flattens out.

Every yarn is dyed to one of five earth pigments, so a rug, a runner and a bath mat bought years apart still look like they were chosen together.

The bath pieces are cut from travertine and honed to a soft matte. The stone's small holes and banding stay, because they're the point.
